Sutton County Release Meanings
“Released” should describe the end of a specific custody event. At Sutton County Jail, that can mean release on bond, release after a dismissal or court order, time served, or completion of a county sentence. It can also mean departure by transfer. A transfer ends the local booking but does not put the person back in the community. TDCJ, another county jail, the U.S. Marshals Service, ICE, a medical facility, or another authority may become the next custodian.
The official Sutton County Sheriff page does not publish a roster or an archive of past bookings. That makes absence from an online list especially weak proof. The best county record pairs the release date and time with a disposition and, for a transfer, the receiving agency. VINELink can report a timely status change. A court document can explain the legal reason. Neither replaces the Sheriff’s event record when the exact end of county custody matters.
| Release term | What it means | Where to verify next |
|---|---|---|
| Bond | Physical pretrial release after the bond process; the case remains pending unless separately resolved. | Sheriff event record and bond or docket entry |
| Dismissed or court ordered | The court authorized an outcome, subject to any other warrant or hold. | Court order plus Sheriff event record |
| Time served | The county confinement part may be complete. | Judgment or sentence and Sheriff record |
| Parole or mandatory supervision | A person leaves TDCJ incarceration but remains under state supervision. | TDCJ and Parole Division |
| Discharge | TDCJ’s term for completion of the sentence and release from incarceration or supervision. | TDCJ release and discharge history |
| Transfer | The person left one facility while custody continued elsewhere. | Named receiving authority |
Sutton County Release Record Fields
A release record answers three practical questions: which booking ended, when did it end, and did another authority receive the person? Identity must be checked first. Names alone can match the wrong person, so a date of birth, booking number, or agency identifier is useful. Event details then connect the arrest, charge, bond, court case, and final jail movement.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Booked name and aliases | The identity used for the jail event |
| Date of birth and booking number | Disambiguation from people with similar names |
| Arresting agency and booking time | Who initiated the event and when it began |
| Charges and bond | Allegations as booked and any stated bond type or amount |
| Court and cause number | The case that may explain bond, dismissal, or sentence |
| Release date and time | When the Sutton booking ended |
| Release reason or disposition | Bond, time served, dismissal, completion, transfer, hold, or another recorded outcome |
| Receiving agency or destination | Where custody continued after a transfer |
A booking photograph is tied to the arrest and booking, not to the release. It does not establish guilt, case disposition, or the fact of release. No Sutton source states how long the Sheriff retains booking images, release entries, or jail logs. Request an image separately, if retained and releasable, so that question does not obscure the release-event request.
Request Sutton County Release Records
No Sheriff-specific online request form, records email, fee schedule, response estimate, or published correction method was found. Call the Sutton County Sheriff’s Office at 325-387-2288 before sending a request. The office is at 401 E. Oak Street, Sonora, TX 76950. Ask which written, electronic, mail, or in-person method it currently accepts.
- Give the full booked name, date of birth, booking number if known, and a narrow date range.
- Ask for existing records showing booking date and time, arresting agency, booked charges, bond, release date and time, release disposition, and any receiving agency.
- Ask separately for the booking photograph, if retained and publicly releasable.
- Request a cost estimate before copies are made and state the preferred format.
- If a field appears wrong, identify that field and attach a reliable source, such as a certified court order.
The Texas Public Information Act requires prompt production of public information, meaning as soon as possible under the circumstances and within a reasonable time. The ten-business-day Attorney General process applies when an agency seeks to withhold information; it is not a universal delivery deadline. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, victim, security-sensitive, and other confidential details may be withheld or redacted.
Find Sutton County Released Inmates
Sutton County has no official public jail search or recent-release list. The search path must therefore follow the person and the particular custody event. A missing name is never enough. Keep the source, agency, identifiers, status date, and time checked with each result.
- Open Texas VINELink, choose “Search for Someone,” and check the exact name or agency ID. Confirm that the reporting agency and identifiers match.
- Call the Sheriff at 325-387-2288. Ask whether the named booking ended in community release or transfer, and request the date, time, disposition, and destination.
- Search Sutton court records for the cause number. A bond order, dismissal, judgment, or sentence can explain the legal basis, though it does not prove the physical exit time.
- If the Sheriff record names TDCJ, another jail, ICE, USMS, or another recipient, continue with that authority.
- For a durable result, request the Sheriff’s booking and release event rather than rely on a temporary online status.
Sutton County Release List Limits
The official Sheriff page provides contact information and directs visitors to VINELink. It does not expose a current roster, booking list, release date field, 24-hour list, 72-hour list, archive, or update schedule. It also links no verified Sheriff app or social release feed. An aggregator must not be treated as a county source.
The page confirms the defensible online starting point and the main phone route. For a weekend or three-day period, give an exact start and end date in a records request. That is a targeted request, not a public rolling feed. The separate 72-Hour Releases page explains that distinction.
TDCJ Sutton Release Search
Use the TDCJ Online Inmate Search only when the person entered Texas state custody. It is not the history for every Sutton County Jail booking. Search by seven-digit TDCJ number or SID number when possible. A name search accepts first and last name, while gender and race can narrow the results. Compare identifiers before opening a record.
The interface can show location, offenses, county and court, sentence information, projected release date, and parole-review details. TDCJ states that information is updated on working days and is at least 24 hours old. A projected date is a calculation, not an actual release. A favorable parole vote also does not prove physical departure. Processing, a program requirement, reconsideration, a warrant, or a detainer may intervene.
| Channel | Best use |
|---|---|
| Online search | Current state location, sentence, projected date, and review fields |
| pia@tdcj.texas.gov | No-charge basic inmate information with a name and TDCJ number or birth details |
| 844-512-0461 | Parole status before a Board vote |
| 512-406-5202 | Release processing after a favorable Board vote |
| 936-295-6371 or 800-535-0283 | General TDCJ locator, weekdays 8 a.m.–5 p.m. |
For historical proof, ask TDCJ for admission date, actual release date, release type, discharge date if different, units, identifiers, and supervision dates. The Release Date Lookup guide explains why projected release and discharge are not synonyms.
Sutton Release Bonds Need Proof
Sutton’s published criminal dockets may list a bond type, amount, and sometimes the bondsman. Examples include personal-recognizance, surety, and cash bonds. These entries help explain a possible route out of pretrial custody. They do not show that a bond was posted, accepted, or followed by physical release. Another cause, warrant, or hold may block the expected movement.
Pair the court entry with the Sheriff’s booking and release event. A safe conclusion is narrow: the docket lists a bond mechanism, while the Sheriff record establishes whether and when the Sutton booking ended. The same rule applies to a dismissal or time-served order. Legal authority and jail movement are related facts, but they are not the same fact.
Sutton Release Records Before 1992
The Sutton Judicial Records Search draws a clear line. County-court misdemeanor and district-court felony records are available online from 1992 forward. Older files require an in-person search or the completed request process. The Clerk states that staff will not conduct civil or criminal searches by telephone.
For a newer case, search by party and cause number, then obtain the docket, bond order, judgment, sentence, dismissal, or commitment document. For an older case, a blank online result has little weight. The District Clerk publishes a $10 historical search fee. The county’s judicial form lists $1 per page, $5 certification for each county-court document, postage for mail, and a 2.85 percent card charge with a $2 minimum. It says certified copies cannot be emailed and allows up to five business days, normally one to two. These are Clerk terms, not Sheriff release-record fees.
Sutton County Post-Release Supervision
Parole is discretionary release from TDCJ incarceration to serve the rest of a sentence under supervision. Mandatory supervision is a separate statutory release route for eligible cases. Probation, also called community supervision, is imposed by a court and managed by a Community Supervision and Corrections Department. Discharge means the sentence and its custody or supervision have ended. These terms should not be swapped.
TDCJ assigns Sutton parole and mandatory-supervision cases to the San Angelo District Parole Office, Region V, at 1070 Gateway Drive, San Angelo, TX 76905, telephone 325-947-8644. Probation questions follow the TDCJ Community Justice Assistance Division locator for Sutton’s multi-county CSCD arrangement. The San Angelo parole office is not the probation office. See Post-Release Supervision for the separate verification routes.
Sutton Release Status Beyond Texas
VINELink is useful for a specific-person status check and notification. A released or out-of-custody label can corroborate a change, but the reporting agency still creates the data. Correct an error with that agency. A no-result can reflect nonparticipation, lag, outage, spelling, another reporting agency, or the limits of a recently released window. The VINE Inmate Check guide covers registration and alert confirmation.
For federal prison custody, use the BOP Inmate Locator. It covers federal inmates from 1982 forward and accepts a name or BOP Register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number. “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” means BOP custody ended. It does not rule out another jail, immigration custody, or federal supervised release.
If the Sutton record names an immigration transfer, check the ICE Online Detainee Locator by A-number and country of birth or exact biographical data. An ICE release result describes the end of ICE detention only. Transfer, removal, or another outcome may follow. No dedicated ICE facility was identified in Sutton County, so any immigration route must remain case-specific.
Match Sutton Release Sources
Choose the source that controlled the event. A Sutton County booking should start with the Sheriff and VINELink. A state-prison term belongs in TDCJ. A federal prison term belongs in BOP. When one record says transfer, the next search belongs with the named recipient rather than the agency whose custody ended.
| System | What it can establish | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Sutton Sheriff record | End, reason, time, and destination of a county booking | No public online roster or archive was found |
| VINELink | Agency-reported status change or notification | Not a certified permanent record |
| Sutton court record | Bond, dismissal, judgment, or sentence context | Does not prove physical departure time |
| TDCJ | Texas state custody, projected date, release, or discharge history | Does not cover an ordinary county bond release |
| BOP | Federal prison custody and BOP release date | Does not establish freedom from every authority |
| ICE locator | Recent ICE detention or release information within its scope | A no-result does not prove community release |
Apparent conflicts often reflect scope, not error. A court can authorize release before the jail completes it. VINELink can report a change before a written record is easy to retrieve. BOP can stop holding someone while another authority begins custody. Record the exact words and dates from each source, then ask the agency that controlled the disputed event.
Getting Home After Sutton Release
Concho Valley Transit District serves Sutton County through an advance-reservation rural system. CVTD says rural rides are free and require no application, but reservations should be made 24 to 48 hours ahead and before 3 p.m. on the prior day. The official Sonora-to-San Angelo schedule lists Monday through Saturday service.
This is a planning option, not a jail-release shuttle. No source promises pickup at the jail door, and Sutton publishes no standard release time, exit point, waiting area, or property procedure. Riders should confirm the pickup point and schedule directly. The service fits an anticipated release that can be planned, not an unverified same-day departure.
Sutton Jail Population Context
The defensible local figure is historical. A Texas Commission on Jail Standards report for October 2019 through September 2020 listed Sutton County Jail with a rated capacity of 28 and an average daily population of 12. Those figures describe facility capacity and average daily use during that period. They are not a current census.
No reliable annual Sutton release count, average stay, or turnover rate was found. Population cannot be converted into the number of people released. The date and the measure must stay attached to any citation so an old capacity report is not mistaken for present release activity.
Sutton Release Is Not Erasure
Release or dismissal does not automatically erase an arrest or court file. Expunction depends on the specific conditions in Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A. Nondisclosure under Government Code Chapter 411 limits ordinary public disclosure in covered cases but does not destroy every governmental record. Deferred adjudication, dismissal, sentence completion, or release alone does not guarantee either remedy.
Texas Business & Commerce Code Chapter 109 sets accuracy, correction, expunction or nondisclosure notice, and no-fee-for-deletion or correction rules for covered private criminal-record publishers. That law does not turn a private publication into an official release record. When an official field is wrong, direct a precise correction request to the office that created it.
Sutton County Release Facility
Sutton County Jail is the only county detention facility identified by the reviewed official county and Texas Commission on Jail Standards sources. The Sutton County Sheriff’s Office operates it from 401 E. Oak Street in Sonora. A person may leave for the community after bond, dismissal, time served, or sentence completion, or may transfer to another authority. Confirm the outcome through the Sheriff’s event record and follow any named receiving agency.
No state prison, federal prison, or dedicated ICE detention facility was identified within Sutton County. State, federal, and immigration systems still matter when a local booking ends in transfer or when a person returns to a Sutton address after release from another system. Facility type, not just county connection, determines the correct lookup.
